Honeywell Introduces Innovative Two-Phase Liquid Cooling Technology - News

Orlando, Florida, USA, March 18, 2020 -Honeywell announced the launch of Solstice®  E-Cooling, an innovative liquid cooling technology primarily used in high-performance electronic devices. The new refrigerant is more efficient than traditional air and water cooling methods and reduces operating costs for applications such as data centers that use high-performance servers.

Solstice® E-Cooling is a cutting-edge member of Honeywell's revolutionary next-generation Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant technology family, which uses a two-phase liquid cooling process to cool electronics while reducing environmental impact. The new technology is now available and has made its debut at the American Refrigeration Show (AHR) in Orlando, Florida.

"As the demand for global data processing continues to rise, there is an urgent need for more efficient cooling mechanisms. To that end, Honeywell is committed to developing a range of solutions to help customers around the world prepare for the future. "With Honeywell's Solstice® E-Cooling technology, data centers and other high-performance electronics can further improve cooling efficiency while reducing costs and carbon footprints. ”

According to a research report by Global Market Insights (GMI), data centers currently account for about 3% of global electricity consumption, and this number is expected to rise to 8% by 2030. As cooling systems account for approximately 40% of total data center energy consumption, the demand for intelligent energy-efficient solutions is expected to drive the growth of the data center cooling market.

Compared to single-phase liquid cooling systems, where the liquid remains liquid throughout the cooling process, Solstice® E-Cooling's two-phase liquid cooling process is more energy-efficient, provides more uniform cooling, better performance, and requires less pump power. At the same time, Solstice® E-Cooling is also an insulating fluid solution that will not be damaged by short circuits due to contact with liquids.

Honeywell is a leading refrigerant in the development of leading refrigerants including R-410A,Solstice® yfSolstice® zeand Solstice® zd). With its ultra-low global warming potential and zero ozone depletion potential, Solstice® E-Cooling improves cooling performance while minimizing environmental impact. Honeywell's refrigerant portfolio has been commercialized, two-phase liquid cooling has been proven in practice, and products such as Solstice® E-Cooling have proven their superior performance around the world.

Honeywell is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of refrigerants, with Solstice® and Genetron® brand refrigerants used in a variety of sectors worldwide, including refrigeration, construction and automotive air conditioning. Honeywell is working with its suppliers on a $900 million investment program for the development and production of hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) technology.
