Interconnect specialist WireMasters welcomed Will Stone MP to its Swindon headquarters on 19 August to discuss the role a specialist interconnect solution provider can play in strengthening the UK’s defence supply chain.
Stone, who represents Swindon North and chairs the UK Defence Supply Chain All Party Parliamentary Group, toured WireMasters’ sales and distribution centre to see first-hand how the company supplies military-grade wire & cable, interconnect connector systems, harness management products and value-added services that support mission-critical aerospace and defence programmes. Discussions focused on the importance of the local specialist defence ecosystem and the requirement to strengthen domestic supply chains, supporting military capability and creating high-skilled engineering jobs, while highlighting the value of collaboration between industry, government and education.
The visit also highlighted how WireMasters is combining its global expertise with Swindon’s established engineering expertise to support the region’s manufacturing base. The company is looking to draw on local talent, including experienced automotive professionals and apprentices, while exploring opportunities to scale its UK operations as demand from the aerospace and defence sector grows.
A key outcome of the discussions was a shared commitment to developing the next generation of domestic talent to support the UK’s future defence capability. WireMasters intends to join the steering group supporting the Defence Excellence Pathway with Swindon College, helping strengthen links between industry and education through work experience, apprenticeships, mentoring and industry input.
“Today’s visit demonstrated the important role that specialist value add service providers play within the UK’s defence supply chain,” said Nick Aubrey, managing director (UK) and sales director (EMEA) at WireMasters. “While major defence programmes often attract the headlines, they rely on resilient supply chains made up of specialist businesses providing the critical components that underpin military capability.
“WireMasters has invested in establishing a UK operation that supports British defence and aerospace customers while creating skilled jobs locally, and we see significant opportunities for continued growth as investment in UK defence capability increases. Our ambition is to combine the global expertise and capabilities of WireMasters with the skills available within the local engineering & technical network, while creating opportunities for apprentices and experienced talent from sectors such as automotive to develop careers in defence,” Aubrey added.

The discussions also covered WireMasters’ plans for future growth, including the potential need to expand into a larger facility as its UK operation scales. Continued cooperation between industry, government and local stakeholders could support investment and help Swindon respond to the arrival of new manufacturers, strengthening its position as a centre for advanced defence manufacturing excellence.
