Product & Technology Selection

For tank farm applications, detector selection should cover sensing principle, range, response time, hazardous area rating, ingress protection, and maintenance. Searchline open-path IR for open tank areas; XCD fixed at pumps/valves; H₂S for sour crude; BTX sensors where benzene tanks exist.

Selection Principles

• Combustible gas: catalytic for non-inhibited atmospheres; IR for poisoned environments (offshore, tank farms)
• Toxic gas: electrochemical sensors with cross-interference and range matching (e.g. H₂S 0–50 ppm)
• Oxygen: monitor both deficiency (<19.5%) and enrichment (>23.5%)
• Installation: Large open areas, vapor cloud dispersion, lightning & Ex requirements — 316 stainless housing, IP66+ outdoors
• Outputs: 4-20mA and Modbus RTU for DCS/SCADA integration
